I don't know if I was born with high expectations or they have developed over all this time stuffing my pie hole with food and beverage, but either way, it is semantics. We checked out the bar menu for lunch and disappointed seems to over egg it but we were, well, rather dissatisfied. I don't mind the perfunctory service, order at the counter kind of thing, but I want something in return for my transaction. 3 dishes for more than $100 for a Monday lunch needs to satisfy.

Liam Thornycroft and co have taken over the hotel and we did want to offer time to settle in before visiting. It still very much the same vibe but given the success of Beppo in its time and what he did with Cliffies Emporium, we did have an expectation about the offer.
Ordering at the bar is fine, but please don't be rude when I do it. A smile; a 'Hi how are you?' or a simple greeting is necessary. Gruff and blunt don't cut it in this day and age. We are not interrupting your day, we are paying your wages. Mine is a simple order, with one minor alteration. Nothing to get to bothered by.

Food arrived quickly, which was excellent. A potato pizza with crisp prosciutto was lovely. We did ask for Tabasco and rocket - and a curt "You'll need to pay extra' could have been handled a little better. The other two dishes arrived and this is where the challenges started.

A chicken schnitzel on some basic frozen chips with a side of overdressed coleslaw was very overcooked, so much so that the chicken was dry. It was disappointing at best. A grilled cosberg salad sounded appealing - but the reality was again, disappointing. Bacon was inedible, so overcooked that it could not be chewed and whatever the dried bread was masquerading as croutons was also far too crisp to be edible. The dressing also felt like a few additions had been made to some commercially produce mayo.

I hope on our next visit we do get to have a better expereince but were we to judge just on this one, it was not a good outcome at all. Mum used to say, "I'm not angry, I am just disappointed!" This was a cutting remark to me and it's fair to say, I am not angry - just, well, you know the rest.
