Katnook Estate 2017 Chardonnay

We've been stacking this up against later vintages, thanks to a favourable clerical error at our local Dan Murphy's. We ended up with a lockdown purchase of a mix of 2017 and 2019

It's fair to say we previously had an '18 which was nothing like this. It was a little insipid and missing some of the lovely toasted sesame and brioche notes of chardonnays of old. This vintage, on the other hand, is a trip down memory lane reminding us of the old world when Chardy ruled the dining room.

When left to lose some of the nordic chill my wine fridge keeps product at, this opens up a great deal and delivers hints of white peach and buttery goodness. Subtle vanillin oak notes meander around at the finish with lingering memories of long gone autumn days when it was too warm for red and you need something to pair with a perfectly roasted chook.

Katnook has a long rich history dating back to 1896 when the first vintage was crafted in their Woolshed. The maritime climate & unique red earth soils are indicative & representative of Coonawarra's wine styles. A natural limestone aquifer provides abundant water source and the region rarely has a dud vintage.

Pair with: a well roasted chook, Margherita pizza or grilled salmon
