Treasury Hotel, Brisbane

Right in the heart of the Brisbane CBD, and part of Treasury Casino, is Treasury Hotel. A quick 2 night stop over for a bit of business and some down time, Treasury does opulent and grand on a price conscious scale.

A choice of either Casino or Hotel room, I took the hotel, located a short walk from the Casino complex, and in what were once the Treasury and Land Administration buildings. It was built in 1886, was at one point the Queensland Art Gallery and housed various other government departments. After an expensive makeover, with a nod to the heritage of the complex, Treasury Brisbane opened its doors in 1995.

There are 18 feet high ceilings with original features everywhere, with very modern touches. The bed - oh the bed. I could have slept on it for many more hours than I did. Most hotel beds I find can be a bit average but this was incredibly comfy and demanded a lie in before work the next day. Check in is in the main building, so a wander to the room with a porter dragging my bag offered a chance for a chat. Staff across the board were very friendly and welcoming.

Aircon and heating is controlled individually (one of the great bugbears of hotel stays for me) which meant I could control the noise, the hum and the temperature. That made me happy and scored big points. The bedding was excellent quality, there was plenty of space to work comfortably while in the room and maybe it was the high ceilings but it felt very roomy.

As you are in the heart of the city, parking is at a premium. $30 a day if you need but with everything in walking distance, perhaps it wasn't needed. A quick walk across the bridge to the parklands at Southbank, and the city, literally at your doorstep.

It makes a claim to offer all the luxury of a 5 star property with all that comes with it - 24 hour room service and an 11am checkout to linger longer in the comfy bed. If I was to quibble, some of the amenities and in room services appeared a bit cheap. With some much on offer, these could do with some attention, especially in an opulent marble bathroom.

Great stay, great price and right in the heart of Brisbane. I will be more than happy to book here again.
